A conversion blog, run by a convert, telling conversion students we can't have 'aggressive opinions' about Jewish life, practice, and ritual.
I can see where they are coming from in portions of the post, but something feels wrong about telling us we can't have aggressive opinions.I will have all the damned opinions I want. I will have opinions on how I live Jewishly and how I practice and how my body and mind affect my practice and I will have opinions on Jewish law that affects me. I will have very aggressive opinions.
"There will be more than enough opportunities to speak from a Jewish perspective in your future - for now, please speak from your actual perspective as a student."
My perspective of a student is having very Jewish and aggressive opinions. My opinions ARE from the perspective of a student because I AM a student regardless of what I'm saying. People tend to know I'm a student. If they don't like it, they can make counterarguments. End of story.
My religious trauma history has had enough of being told what kinds of opinions I can have and how to have them. My gender status has had enough of that. My disability status has had enough of that. To be Jewish is to have open thought and opinions both.
